ABSTRACT
This chapter explores:
what is meant by the term ‘disability’ and the family experience of disability;
having a disability, the medical and social models of disability and discussing disability;
having a disabled sibling;
being a disabled parent;
mental health;
being a child carer; and
disability in the family and discrimination, poverty and hate crime, as well as the prejudice experienced by some families.
