ABSTRACT

The Middle East, of which Jordan is a part, has been the scene of political, social, and cultural conflicts since the victorious Allies of World War I supported the goals of the World Zionist Organization (WZO) to establish in Palestine a national home for the Jewish people. Attempts were made in 1937 and 1938, and again in 1947, to partition Palestine into two states: one for the Palestinian Arabs and another for the Jewish people. None of these attempts succeeded.
