ABSTRACT

Jordan has been undergoing water strain as a result of water stress (number of persons per unit flow). In 2004, for example, 2,717 persons competed for a unit flow of blue and green water, compared with the equilibrium condition of 588 persons per unit flow (equilibrium need is 1,700 m3/cap/y). This means that water stress in Jordan, in 2004, was 4.6 times that at equilibrium. And the water stress will be rising over time, resulting in more strain than has been experienced thus far.
