ABSTRACT
AS DISCUSSED IN THE PREFACE, two interdependencies underlie research frontiers in resource and rural economics. One pertains to differing expectations for resources and environmental systems. Farmers, foresters, and commercial fisher people have one view of natural resources; those who improve the quality of their lives with natural resource amenities have another. Yet a common natural environment and a single social and economic system must serve both urban and rural people.
