ABSTRACT
In many traditional societies, people have lived in close proximity to wetlands and made good use of their resources and services, while incorporating them in their culture. These links, while still in existence, have been damaged and weakened in contemporary, technologically developed societies, rendering the conservation of wetlands more difficult.
