ABSTRACT
Difficult choices need to be made regarding the troubling fact that researchers, as all external agents, are inevitably, implicitly or explicitly agents of change and intervention. The process of social research inevitably transforms the very reality it seeks to observe. Indeed, people often welcome or put up with researchers because they see them as vehicles of contact with external resources – political, financial or material.
