ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to provide a practitioner's view of current climate change communications, primarily focusing on the UK context. We discuss the ways in which governmental and non-governmental approaches can engage individuals with relevant issues, and indicate the extent to which some of these efforts have been successful. In the following sections, we discuss examples of communications aiming to engage the public with climate change, drawing on evidence of their objectives and efficacy from various documentary sources. Subsequently, in order to provide the reader with wider understandings and interpretations of approaches in this area, we present perspectives from a selection of leading communicators before concluding with our key findings and recommendations.
