ABSTRACT

Enough has already been said to demonstrate that the exchange and feasting which accompany ceremonial events are of considerable importance in Hanuabada economy. In this chapter, I shall show that these events indeed occupy the centre of the Hanuabada stage. So many persons are involved in each one, so many goods change hands and are consumed, the preparations are so involved and frequent, that a large part of a Hanuabadan’s life is taken up in thinking about them, planning for them, and participating in them.
