ABSTRACT
The main thrust of this study is to analyze the formation, functions, and structures of a modern African state, its relationship to the world economy, and its domestic policies. Of particular interest are policies to reform the educational system of Côte d’Ivoire in order to achieve certain intended objectives officially defined as national ones, although they may tend to reflect some specific domestic or global class interests. The state is dealt with as problematic and educational policy, and reforms arc analyzed as a reflection of this problematic within the framework of the world system and its economic crisis.
