ABSTRACT

Advanced producer services (APS) companies have been profoundly affected in their daily worldwide operations by the rapidly increasing scale and scope of operation and competition, in particular by processes resulting from globalization. That is clear from the interviews with key industry players, reported in Chapter 6. But these impacts have been mediated and, to no small degree, triggered by equally rapid and revolutionary advances in the technology of information generation and exchange. The POLYNET interviews have thrown new light on these changing patterns, in particular their significance for the location of APS companies within the mega-city regions (MCRs).
