ABSTRACT
The final chapter in this volume offers a look back from mid-century at how we mastered our own evolution. My contribution is dedicated to Mary Douglas, who we now know was one of the most far-sighted people of the 20th century, with special thanks to James Martin and Bill Sharpe, who reached out in time and managed to capture me.
