ABSTRACT
Since January 2000, member states of the World Trade Organization (WTO) – including South Africa – have been steadily renegotiating a global trade and investment treaty called the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS). This trade agreement targets an extensive list of services for cross-border trade and investment and has direct and far-reaching consequences for water services in Southern Africa.
