ABSTRACT

Following methyl bromide’s listing as a controlled ozone-depleting substance (ODS) under the Montreal Protocol in 1992, many countries have undertaken activities to develop, transfer and implement alternative technologies. As a result, the consumption of methyl bromide has been reduced substantially in all regions and in all uses controlled by the Protocol. This chapter provides an overview of the major barriers and challenges that arose, and identifies the main methods of technology transfer and change that occurred.
