ABSTRACT

Rwanda, like many developing nations, relies heavily on agriculture for both domestic consumption and exports, and more than 85 per cent of the population depend upon agriculture for their livelihoods. Starting in 2003, the Agricultural Technology Development and Transfer (ATDT) project initiated 30 village information and communication centres (VICs) in Rwanda as a mechanism for sharing information to improve livelihoods and natural resource management (NRM). This project was managed by the International Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) and the Institute of Agronomic Sciences of Rwanda (ISAR) with support from the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The findings of a rapid assessment of these VICs are presented here.
