ABSTRACT

Documentation should always be kept to the efficient minimum, though perhaps this is easier to say than to do. Used like maps, documents can help to keep you and your company on track. Used as records, they can help to show where you have been and how you got where you are. Used as an excuse for thinking properly about the provision of objective evidence that the system is being used, they quickly become wallpaper which is pretty to look at but merely papers over the cracks.
