ABSTRACT

This chapter reflects on what the eight case studies in Chapters 2 to 9 tell us about addressing urban deprivation, while Chapter 11 considers how local and extra-local organizations can be more effective in supporting this – from local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and local government to national organizations and international agencies. Each case study is about local organizations and actions or about national organizations that support local organizations and actions that address urban poverty. The focus on local organizations and processes is because, for the urban poor, the deprivations that they face are manifest and experienced ‘locally’.
