ABSTRACT

This chapter seeks to examine how approaches to conserving species of animals can help enhance the conservation of ecosystems upon which the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) focuses. Article 4(d) of the UNFCCC sets out commitments to:

promote and co-operate in the conservation and enhancement of sinks and reservoirs of all greenhouse gases including biomass, forests and oceans, as well as other terrestrial, coastal and marine ecosystems.
