ABSTRACT

Follow-up in Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is a new area of increasing interest, largely yet to be formalized. This chapter breaks new ground and many of the issues raised will need further exploration in the years to come. While follow-up is part of good SEA practice, until now there has been little attention given to this subject. Nevertheless, there have been some attempts to experiment with follow-up programmes in informal SEA practice, particularly with respect to monitoring activities, and illustration of such attempts can help to improve current understanding.
