Developing a Municipal Adaptation Plan (Map) for Climate Change: The City of Cape Town

Scientific evidence confirms that climate change is already taking place and that most of the warming observed during the past 50 years is due to human activities. ¹ In Southern Africa, climate change projections suggest increased variability in rainfall, more frequent extreme events and increased temperatures. ² These will occur even if global emissions were to be reduced in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol. In Cape Town, a significant number of past disasters and events have been associated with weather conditions and the concern is that these may occur more frequently in the future. ³
