ABSTRACT

Treatment Trends, Inc. has provided addiction and trauma services for over 40 years. Drawing from this organizational experience, we recognize that veterans face a constellation of risk factors for addiction as they transition home. The primary purpose of this chapter is to walk readers through the series of factors, struggles, and decision-making choices encountered, to be able to conceptualize, design, and open a 60 bed veteran-specific addiction, co-occurring, and PTSD therapeutic community for veterans and their families. Readers will be informed about the various strategic factors that must be considered, and how obstacles and challenges can be anticipated and addressed in order to establish a needed resource for veterans. In addition, there is identification of the core values and services being developed to address and treat, with honor and dignity, the bodies, minds, spirits, and hearts of veterans whose lives need mending. Veterans’ Sanctuary is now a licensed drug and alcohol treatment facility.
