ABSTRACT

The move from personal questioning to connection with a visible community cannot be understated in terms of its significance as a highly charged political statement. It is notable that many of the youth who participated in this project found stability and an outlet for their political desires for queer-friendly social spaces through connection with a broader queer community. Although there are obvious social motivations—increasingly so, as the amount of youth community participation grows—the outcome has been a radical reenergizing of the queer political movement. With this push, however, comes a degree of pressure that rests heavily on the minds and backs of youth doing queer political work.
