ABSTRACT

From this beginning emerged Professor Ruth Strang’s innovative contribution to education for the next four decades at Teachers College, Columbia University. Culminating in her academic focus on the needs of the gifted during her last 15 years, she initiated the fi rst national advocacy association for gifted students, the American Association for Gifted Children (AAGC). When she arrived at Teachers College in the early 1920s, Ruth Strang was a determined, talented individual willing to take a calculated risk. She believed in her ability to achieve academically and was living ahead of her times as an independent woman!
