ABSTRACT

In her review of descriptive cataloging in the United States over the period 1876-1975, Kathryn Luther Henderson notes that “descriptive cataloging is concerned to a large extent with the choice and form of bibliographical data elements necessary to provide access to the items in the collection, and to describe and identify the items for purposes of selection or rejection by the user.” 1 This chapter continues that review by focusing on the development of the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules from AACR1 (1967) to AACR2 (1978) AACR2R (1988).
