ABSTRACT

On the back cover of his collection of stories Orgia dos loucos, Ungulani Ba Ka Khosa introduces himself as follows: “I was born on August 1, 1957, at 0.45 A.M. in Inhaminga, Sofala [Mozambique]. The rest is irrelevant, because according to Barthes There is only biography when life is unproductive. As long as I produce, as long as I write, it is the text itself that appropriates (happily) my narrative time.’” A biographical sketch, therefore, seems ironic. Nevertheless, a few words on Khosa’s background will here serve as a brief introduction to the reader of this vibrant Mozambican author before proceeding to his texts.
