ABSTRACT

The domestic economic policy regimes that have been adopted by Tanzania since independence (1961) are as follows: the early years of the post-colonial era; the post-Arusha Declaration period; and the free market economy. Although all these aimed at improving trade and enhancing economic development, they were also in line with international obligations and regional settings to influence the pattern of trade development in Tanzania. It is within the context of these three regimes that the evolution of competition law in Tanzania can be best understood.
