ABSTRACT

The Phonological Assessment Battery (PhAB) (Frederickson et al. 1997) is an instrument designed to measure phonological processing. There are norms for children from 6:00 to 14 : 1 1 years and it is intended to be used with children whose literacy progress is causing concern. The framework within which it was conceptualised has been provided by Frith ( 1995). The PhAB includes the following tests :

1 . Alliteration 2. Rhyme 3 . Spoonerisms 4. Naming Speed: Picture Naming Speed and Digit Naming Speed 5. Fluency: Semantic Fluency, Alliteration Fluency, and Rhyme Fluency 6. Non-word Reading.
