ABSTRACT
Multān has been an important city for several thousand years and was once the most influential city in the area. Its location at the original confluence of the Rāvi and Chenāb Rivers (they now meet some twenty-four miles to the north) and at the apex of the main trade routes through northwestern India helped it to become a wealthy, fortified city, and to remain so for almost 2,000 years.
