ABSTRACT
Peshāwar's diverse character derives from its location along the principal trade and transportation routes from the Medi terranean to China. As a market town, it was a destination for merchants from Bukhara, Kabul, and Samarkand. Addition ally, all armies invading India from Central Asia, North Africa, Anatolia (Asia Minor), and Eastern Europe had to pass through it. Peshāwar therefore displays a variety of cultural and religious influences, all of which have contributed to the vitality of the city.
