ABSTRACT
Once, I had a student who, in an assessment, was complimented on her drawing ability. She was confused by the compliment, and I suspect she thought I was making fun of her. We talked, and it became clear that she believed good drawing had to be both realistic and representational. This was the confusion. Her drawing wasn’t bad as a piece of representation, but it wasn’t really very good.
