ABSTRACT
In a steel town at Clairton, Pennsylvania, Mike (Robert de Niro), Nick (Christopher Walken), Stanley, Stephen and Axel are friends. Mike, Nick and Steve are due to fight in Vietnam. Before they do, Steve gets married. At the wedding Nick gets engaged to Linda (Meryl Streep), and later gets Mike to promise to bring him back to Clairton if anything happens to him in the war. The next morning the friends go hunting in the mountains and Mike, as he hopes, kills a deer with a single shot.
