ABSTRACT

The concept of personality will be familiar to most people, as will some of the central elements that one might name if asked to describe the ‘personality’ of someone they know. For example some people might be described as warm, gregarious and supportive, whereas others might be described as hostile, suspicious and controlling. Adjectives such as these are commonly used to describe people and their dispositions, but they are also words that can be used to describe an environment or regime. Just as a person might be described as warm and supportive (or cold and hostile), so too might a given environment.
