ABSTRACT

We use age to judge everything: when one should be walking or talking, allowed to drive, drink alcohol, vote, marry, retire, or watch certain movies. Even when we acknowledge that everyone develops at different paces and that the categories of age are at best a shorthand designed for administrative convenience, we have nevertheless come to assume assessing someone based on age is scientific, natural, and even moral.
