Small arms and light weapons production as part of a national and global defence industry

This chapter compares the world small arms and light weapons (SALW) industry with the conventional arms industry overall, to indicate future research directions in the study of SALW production, and set the scene for a case study on Bulgaria in which issues raised at the global level can be examined in a national context.
