ABSTRACT

İsmāʿīl Rusūhī Anḳaravī (d. 1041/1631) was one of the most important shaykhs in Istanbul at the beginning of the eleventh/seventeenth century. At the time, the Galata Mevlevīhāne where he lived and worked was one of the most infl uential Sufi sites in the Ottoman capital. On account of this location, close to both the European settlements and the Ottoman Court, his tekke was a place where the Mevlevi order could have an impact on both European and Muslim travelers alike.
