ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates the nature of the Czech contribution to the post-war reconstruction of Afghanistan. 1 Specifically, it tries to answer the following questions: What has been the character of the Czech presence in Afghanistan, including the parameters of its central component, the Czech Provincial Reconstruction Team? What security threats and risks, as well as economic interests, can be related to the Czech PRT? What has been the Czech experience at the strategic and tactical levels? How (if at all) did the Czech government explain the necessity to go into Afghanistan within the domestic political debate? Last but not least, the key question is why are the Czechs in Afghanistan at all?
