ABSTRACT

There is a growing interest in the way in which the learner stores and retrieves information. This paper presents a Soviet view which has much in common with that of other psychologists, notably D. P. Ausubel and R. Gagné (see pp. 79 ff. and 205 f.). A common feature of the ideas of these writers is the belief in the importance of the systematization of knowledge in the learning process. In particular the notion of a type of hierarchical structure of concepts of different levels of generality is being accorded considerable prominence.
