ABSTRACT

Cristina Cabral is an associate professor at North Carolina Central State University. An acclaimed poet, Cristina Rodriguez-Cabral was born in Uruguay and is the fi rst Afro-Uruguayan person to achieve a doctoral degree. Cabral has published a book of poetry From my Trench (1993) and the anthology Memory & Resistance (2004). Her poetic work has been analyzed by several scholars and included in collections like Alberto Britos Anthology of Black Uruguayan Poets (1990) and Myriam DeCosta-Willis Daughters of the Diaspora (2003). Cabral has recently participated in a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Institute on Equatorial Guinea, and published a “Fifty words autobiography” in the Spanish literary magazine El Ciervo.
