ABSTRACT

In 1980, the government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, with the technical and financial support of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the World Bank (WB), established the Ammon Hospitality College (AHC), the first of its kind to start hospitality education programs. AHC was established to offer two levels of hospitality education: secondary level (grades eleven and twelve) and diploma level (for two years). The objective of the AHC was to provide the growing Jordanian hospitality sector with the qualified employees it required. The late 1970s saw a boom in the tourism sector, which created an increased demand for skilled employees in the hospitality sector.
