ABSTRACT
The principal aim of this chapter is to give an overview of the history of genetics at the Institute of Psychiatry with a special emphasis on the role, over the past three decades, of Robin Murray. However, in order to set this in its proper context it is necessary to go back a little further and take a look at the history of the comparatively new science of genetics and the beginnings of its applications in the study of mental disorders.
