ABSTRACT

I am tempted to start this autobiographical chapter with the present: I am 68 years old, I am starting a study of environmental effects on gene expression with newborn monozygotic twins, and I am immersed in the pleasures of interacting with my newborn son. However, I will follow Aristotle's wise suggestion in his book on Politics: “He who considers things in their first growth and origin … will obtain the clearest view of them.”
