CAD/CAM INSTRUCTORS WANTED STUDENTS who understood and appreciated in some deep sense the complex mix of opportunities and limitations that came with participating in and using CAD/CAM technologies. As Dr. West explained in an interview, it was important to cheer students on, or nurture them:
These guys are real sharp people. I’ve told this to the TAs. These guys are sharp kids. They’ve got all this energy and are looking for help to direct it. We should not treat them like they don’t know what they’re doing. After they did the CADCD homework, I told them they really accomplished something.
