ABSTRACT
It was the fall of 1992, and Romania had been free for almost 3 years. Life was bleak, bleaker than most Romanians had expected. A revolution and the execution of a hated Communist dictator should have made life better for most Romanians, but instead there was grinding poverty where there should have been plenty. Despair and frustration prevailed where there should have been jubilation.
