ABSTRACT

The point to consider is that integration in either case implies that the knowledge has become transparent in a certain sense. In the first case of automaticity, the knowledge has become a routine part of the person’s set of skills and may be performed without much attention or thought. In the second case, the knowledge is so well developed that its limitations are known along with how it can be adjusted to meet the requirements of new situations. A person with this high level of understanding immediately knows that a modification is required and makes the appropriate adjustment.
