ABSTRACT

This book is about observing children in different play environments and identifying what it is that they learn as they play. It is based around questions that parents, carers, friends and professionals ask as they reflect on the complexities of understanding development, learning, play and the interactions of all three and wonder how best to support each child. Current research and academic sources are considered in framing the answers. This is done to justify the responses and may be particularly important for those who wish to use this book as a basis for study. Throughout the text suggested activities are to stimulate reflection and discussion about the participation of different children as they learn and play.
