ABSTRACT

Our fellow authors in this book have discussed the nature of multiteam systems (MTSs) and have explained what makes these systems unique. As noted by several authors, multiteam systems are both dynamic and complex. Although such systems are sometimes deliberately formed by some external body, more often than not, these teams emerge as a function of environmental pressures, and the nature of these teams develops and evolves over time (Hoegl & Weinkauf, 2005; Marks, DeChurch, Mathieu, Panzer, & Alonso, 2005; Zaccaro, Marks, & DeChurch, Chapter 1, this volume).
