ABSTRACT
In Chapter 7, the roles of class and opportunity are examined through the lens of the metaphor “the American dream” as they relate to clients’ views of career, success, and opportunity. With an awareness of the positive and negative connotations of this popular metaphor, counselors can adopt more inclusive and empowering perspectives of the clients’ future, and can use the provided career counseling tools to empower clients to value their pursuit of their own dream.
