ABSTRACT

The recovery of LTs from biological fluids of patients with acute asthma is well established. Sladek et al.6 evaluated ten atopic asthmatics undergoing allergen inhalation challenge and measured urinary LTE4 levels at 2-hour intervals. They showed a large increase in urine LTE4 within 2 hours after allergen challenge, with a drop in LTE4 levels over the subsequent 6 hours (Figure 16.1). The increase in levels was higher in those who showed a later asthmatic response after allergen challenge as compared to those who had only an early asthmatic response.
