ABSTRACT

Professional counselors are part of a growing profession that values designing, conducting, and evaluating research using a variety of approaches, including quantitative, qualitative, and single-subject design, to name a few methods (Hays, 2010). Establishing best practices allows for greater reliability in case conceptualization, intervention, and prediction (Shapiro, 2009). Moreover, best practices with respect to evaluation and assessment can be a means of promoting social justice within the profession and society (Wood & D’Agostino, 2010). Because sound and culturally relevant research fosters more eective clinical practice, counselors and counselor trainees are encouraged to adopt a scientist-practitioner perspective, even before they begin seeing clients.
