ABSTRACT
This paper is a preliminary attempt to analyse the textual structure of one particular liturgy, that for the New Moon (ya-Caraqâ Ba'âl) in the light of various sources, written and oral. The paper is based on a recording of an actual New Moon liturgy, recorded by myself early in the morning of 12 January 1994 at the Neve Carmel caravan site, near Haifa. Three priests performed the liturgy. 1 No one else was present.
