ABSTRACT

Vietnam embarked on renovation (Doimoi) in 1986 by opening the economy. Since then, foreign direct investment (FDI) has been an important source for a high economic growth rate and development over the past 20 years, and has also been an important factor in strengthening the process of economic integration of Vietnam. FDI helps Vietnam to be more involved in global value change and production networks. Therefore, it is quite common to argue that Vietnam has followed the path of development based on FDI.
